Seeing how fandom gets undone in less than three days because the content junkies can’t get their fix (and it’s gonna be 4 weeks) has been entertaining (not).

While some people have expressed the sentiment of “when AO3 is back we are going to tell the writers how much we missed them”, the majority response I’ve seen, as gauged on r/ao3 even, is “fuck you and your consent if you don’t get me my fix, I’m gonna pirate your fic upload it to Google for them to use them with AI”. Much of the fandom have literally revealed themselves to be techbros.

Do you think that this “majority response” is in any way representative of the user base on that site? Have you considered that the kind of person who responds like this is nothing but a very loud outlier?

That’s why I said the majority response I’ve seen, and it’s on those specific places which - yeah, are Reddit.

But an outlier being loud or not is not the issue. The proof is in the pudding as they say, and the fact that those “”“archives”“” are made and people pass them around means people want them.

No, but why would that matter? That’s damage already done. I’m speaking about damage to do, and the kinds of people who care so little about those writers they can’t “live with” that they would cause such damage.

Just because someone stole an item from your house, does not make it correct or fair for other people to invite themselves in and do the same.

My partner is planning to start using the Grimmory (ebook reader) instance I set up on our home network, when AO3 is back up. I suspect this has been a wake up call for a lot of fans that media is not safe in one centralized place.
