If you like Prey 2017, and you want to kill things like an absolute monster, and you want to play as a girl, Dishonored 2 is a good fit for all of those things. It’s not indie, and I’m not sure you can see boobs, but it’s a great game by any measure (though it’s not well optimized on PC). It’s not an RPG and it lacks the large skill tree of Prey, but it is an action-forward stealth immersive sim with cool eldritch super powers.

Just like “Room (2015)” and “The Room (2003)” right?
11 years? Since what? Prey 2017 came out… 8 years ago?
Also, in what way are the two games comparable aside from the title? Isn’t the first one a linear FPS while 2017 is an immersive sim?
If you’re still buying Call of Duty games, you’re asking for this.
There’s nothing to gain from buying the latest Call of Duty EXCEPT for the latest in in-game advertising tech

5·8 months agoI’ve been relatively impressed that the image/emoji generation on my iPhone has all been done on my device. Every time I’ve used it, I’ve checked the “Apple Intelligence” server requests log and it’s always empty (until the one time I asked it to generate a photo memory).
My phone gets pretty hot instantly, then churns through 3% of the battery in a minute but it’s still running on a local system with the local battery.
For the longest time, I saw this art in Gamestop and assumed it was a game about mining and was confused as shit why it was rated M

2·9 months agoI’m not vouching for SteamOS as a permanent OS. I’m just defending the strengths of a corporation-maintained distribution of Linux as an introduction to Linux, of which I think SteamOS has many. After being introduced, I think more people will get curious about other things they can do with Linux. It’s really just that starting hump that people need to get over
Btw I appreciate the brief explanation. I was actually having trouble with that sort of thing myself on Bazzite the other day and I was curious why SteamOS differed from Fedora on some specific things.

42·9 months agoI see all of these “Why SteamOS and why not another distro?” comments and it kinda blows me away how much the idea of approachability designed by a trusted name seems like a foreign concept here.
Then again, we’re talking about Linux fanatics who probably also argue over whether emacs, vim, or vi are the best text editor lol

Gaming@beehaw.org•Shower thought: Valve could do the ultimate boss-move this year
20·9 months agoApproachability. Valve is a recognizable name and the Steam Deck is notoriously usable in the sea of Linux uncertainty.
Before you say “Linux is totally usable, just look at <examples>” the first question people are prompted with is “What distribution do you want to install?” and there is no singular place that says “this is what you want for this specific use case.”
Valve is not the first name in Linux gaming, but they are a known and trusted name. It’s not just about brand recognition but about trusting a name to guide you through something brand new and extremely daunting. For the vast majority of PC gamers, SteamOS offers a guided introduction to something that previously was stereotyped as complex and difficult to learn.
Is it the best distro? Probably not, but then again it’s extremely easy to migrate from SteamOS to something else when someone discovers they want something else. Until they understand enough about Linux to find that they want something else, SteamOS is currently one of the best ways to get them there

15·9 months agoAs someone who uses my desktop for gaming (and maybe web browsing) exclusively, and as someone mildly but not very familiar with OSes, I read this as “SteamOS is bad because of reason I personally don’t like that many people don’t understand, so do more research about Linux”
The barrier to Linux as an OS is not how good it is but how understandable it is. After Pewdiepie’s video went up I’m confident the search phrase “Linux OS download” skyrocketed in popularity because people don’t know let alone understand what a distribution is.
SteamOS is a great intro to Linux for the majority of PC gamers because it’s not only basically ready to use as soon as you boot it up, but also because it is being maintained by a team of people intent on making it the optimal PC gaming platform.
Once Windows users are introduced to a basic Linux experience why not let them take their time learning more about the variables in distros?
Maybe SteamOS is not the perfect distribution because <list your gripes here> but is there a perfect distribution?

2·9 months agoIn all honesty, Rainbow Six: Siege is as ungrindy as any game could be, and it is as endlessly replayable as there are combinations of all the active players. The whole game is about finding ways to use the deep sandbox to outsmart your opponent, utilizing yours and your teammates abilities in unique combinations and it’s wonderful

The fucking what? I’m sorry but in my experience playing video games since literally before I could read (Pokemon Yellow was a real struggle for me) the only people who have discouraged my passion for it are the conservative fucking boomers, and absolutely no one else.
The older I get the more gaming has become a legitimate hobby, accepted by more and more people. Older generations have accepted it as a much slower pace, but it’s still happening. The victimhood that these incels perceive is entirely self-imposed.

5·11 months agoYeah that’s fair. I haven’t cared about Pokemon since the remakes of Sapphire and Ruby during which I didn’t lose a single battle. It was a cool nostalgia trip but since there was absolutely no strategy necessary I never ever wanted to go back since there’s not enough reward for the time sink; it’s just not fun imo.

Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland was my absolute favorite GBA game as a kid. It’s extremely linear but so well put together

In my headcanon, DOOM 2016’s player character was a genderless force of anger incarnate. No boobs, but power fantasy for sure.
In that vein, if you wanted indie games, you could look for any recent boomer shooter like Viscerafest (yes girl), Ion Fury (yes girl), or Selaco (yes girl). Searching for the “boomer shooter” tag on Steam seems to yield a lot of female protagonist power fantasy games
The only boomer shooter I’ve played lately is Prodeus which doesn’t have a female protagonist but can definitely exemplify the strengths of the boomer shooter subgenre
