Cows Look Like Maps@sh.itjust.worksto Privacy Guides@lemmy.one•NSA ’just days from taking over the internet’ warns Edward SnowdenEnglish14·1 year agoIt sucks but what else was he supposed to do? He had no passport and if he got extradited to the USA then he’d spend years of a life sentence in solitary confinement at a CMU prison or worse. Take one look at how the US government treats those they consider terrorists and you’ll understand his decision.
Obligatory fuck Putin and his war on Ukraine.

Cows Look Like Maps@sh.itjust.worksOPto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Bill is a pro grammer3·2 years agoOr you’re stuck within the confines of a horrible legacy system which the business will not allow you the time to refactor/rewrite but still want your code to be somewhat readable.
But in general, I agree with your argument. When writing from scratch or improving reasonably well designed code, often documentation could be replaced by breaking it up into another function or naming variable better. It’s a bit of a code smell for violating the SRP. And yet there are times that documentation is needed for the “why”. Things are nuanced I guess.
