I have watched all of trek except TOS (just a few famous episodes only).

I just couldn’t get into this show and that’s okay, I don’t need to love every show. Sad to see less Trek as there should be Trek for every type of audience but if they are cancelling then I’m guessing the show didn’t find its mark with people.

I don’t know how to appeal to younger audiences, there are people smarter than me to figure that out but I hope to have a trek for me again someday.

I am glad the crew didn’t just go on a zombie shooting spree, but all that did was make the Klingons do it instead. Wish we could have seen them save the zombies or at least tell us they’ll work with the Klingons to do something about the planet or put a new warning message, etc. if they are made of moss why do they explode with blood when shot?

The flowers were cool.

I think what I’m missing was some depth, all this stuff happened but not really full explanations for things that aren’t intended to be mysteries.

I’m not trying to pick the whole episode apart but it was also confusing we didn’t know where they were in the building fully, it was hard to follow. They were in what felt like basement then suddenly on the roof of a tall building.

I kind of am, but radarr has an editions field which it uses for the file and that seems to be incomplete or inconsistent for my files. It wasn’t a problem before but changing so many at once requires good data first.

Thanks for the tip. I’ve used Plex for so long with manual file name and folder changes so it covered up my issue and now I’m correcting it.

I still have to update the jellyfin title manually though. Jellyfins versions only work with multiple versions of the same file, not if you only have one version in the library that I want labeled as a special edition or something.

I understand. I have converted fully to JF which required people to get onn players, and tunnel into my network and it was a lot of work on my end too.

Congrats. I’m super particular about covers and naming and the conversion of file names that Plex needed to jellyfin is intensive.

I finally got got JF up and running but still working on adding edition names to each item that is special. I really wish there was an editions field so it wasn’t a manual title update. At least I can lock the field afterwards.

The onn boxes run android so it’s just installed as an app from play store. The users connect with their own tailscale account. My server is shared so they see it. Then they install jellyfin on the device, punch in the hostname of the server given by tailscale and the port and then it connects.

I could not get my reverse proxy to let them use my local domain… I’m not smart enough and couldn’t figure it out but they are only using jellyfin so typing one address was fine.

This is also what I do, however, each user creates their own tailnet, not an account on mine and I share the server to them.

This way I keep my 3 free users for me, and other people still get to see jellyfin.

Tailscale and jellyfin in docker, add server to tailnet and share it out to your users emails. They have to install tailscale client in a device, login, then connect to your jellyfin. My users use Walmart Onn $30 streaming boxes. They work great.

I struggled for a few weeks to get it all working, there’s a million people saying “I use this” but never “this is how to do it”. YouTube is useless because it’s filled with “jellyfin vs Plex SHOWDOWN DEATH FIGHT DE GOOGLE UR TOILET”.

I love Truenas so much. I’m growing into its capabilities every day.

I bought an IT Mode flashed hba on eBay for like $40. Fanless, and easy. Make sure it comes with the cables or buy those separately but don’t forget them.

I’ve had two failed harddrives in the last month. Not sure if bad batch or what. Thankfully the order these were on only were the two drives so may not see more. They are under warranty but it’s still a pain!

Otherwise I’m enjoying Mealie lately for my recipes. Kinda nice having them all in one place but accessible by anyone in the house.

I agree the end of a series can feel a little draining as the stories conclude. I get that way with books too.

Lots of rewatches of the trek series, and I do skip ones that are boring to me, sometimes I just follow main story arc with ent and voy, but there are some really good bottle episodes that I miss that way.

If it feels like work to watch an episode, then I skip it. Sometimes it’s the topic, or my mood, or life.

My server is exactly as I need. Basically 1 year old now. This year I really want to do vlans to control the network more than an off the shelf router. I work in tech and still am struggling because all I know is meraki bullshit and that’s not priced for the typical home user.

I’ll need a few AP’s and a switch and firewall. I don’t know what to get or what to buy and each research session ends with more options than I started with. Anyway that’s my goal. I’ll get there eventually.

I’m sure it’ll be fun and I’m always glad to have more trek.

Two things concern me, first every person we’ve met previously from section 31 has been an asshole. Intentional writing to make them them an organization working against the ideals of the federation. Will that make it harder for me to like the characters or their missions? I am unsure if I want to relate better to them.

The second is that universe ending stuff has little emotional impact on me, it’s unimaginable to me especially with the CGI required to visualize it. Episodes always hits me harder when it’s a planet, a species, a special person or some mystery to be discovered.

You’re completely right though, a more modern system would be similar in price and more capable.

I blew my budget on drives and a hot swap case. The rest is easy to upgrade when the time comes.

I have six 12tb drives (seagate exos), purchased refurb from serverpartdeals.com and had great luck with them and their support. I found that on Reddit data hoarder sub.

I run Truenas. 4 drives for primary. 2 drives for backup of the first 4. And I have a qnap 4 bay dumb raid box for a third backup with old drives I had. My paranoia but not related really to the nas.

Anyway it’s possible and I enjoy what I built. Also that case is loud, get a fan controller too.

I know all the reasons I should be on Firefox, but I just love Vivaldi so much.

I’ve been using it for years and have it tuned perfectly for anything I do. It’s feature rich, and fast.

Occasionally there are apps or even tools in life where you are like holy shit, this is exactly made for how I want to do a task/job.

My gestures are so ingrained in me, sometimes I catch my hand moving the mouse to perform an action in another unrelated app. My brain notices instantly but can’t stop my hand from trying to do it anyway. It makes me laugh.

I had an Intel s2600 with dual Xeon and 120 gigs of RAM. It seems like such a good idea to run that as a home server. However, the amount of power that it used because it was older was way too much.

I ended up hunting on eBay and found an old Asus motherboard, Intel chip, ram, and a pny Nvidia card.

I bought refurb hard drives from serverpartdeals and a new case from Amazon.

I recommend starting with a chassis you want and working backwards to help narrow your scope.

Also, I run truenas scale with a bunch of apps. Ssd z1 for os. Ssd z1 for transcode and caches. And then 4 drive set for main storage and another 4 drive set for backup of the first set.

It doesn’t have to be perfect, I still watch all of trek even if some series aren’t as fun to me as others.

It’s a huge universe with unlimited stories. Find some likeable characters and let them save the day. I don’t need a “perfect show”.

I’m a 3rd year subscriber of the Unlimited plan, $158 for 2 years at a time. I utilize the drive, aliases, mail and VPN.

No real complaints. I still use Google calendar because it integrated more with Android phone. I still consider going back to Gmail occasionally for simplicity. I really hate Gmail though but email is garbage. Does it really matter?

I basically priced out good vpn’s, and the two year price of proton was pretty similar to most other quality VPN plans. So why not stick with it and get the rest of the ecosystem too.

I don’t think about it too much, it’s email and it works.

I do not care about secure email because I don’t communicate with anyone else using it, but I do like how it automatically blocks trackers and cleans email links for me.
