Well when it was just IE, Netscape and Opera… IE was the best browser. It won. Hands down.

Programming@programming.dev•What SDLC Paradigm Did You Use in Your Project?
14·9 months agoI’ve spent the last 25 years writing enterprise applications. 10 or so years ago the sdlc became “Dark Scrum” where all the trappings of scrum, expectations of waterfall and non of the prep work of waterfall. It’s an interesting system where management can demand anything and then blame the devs for any and all problems that occur because “we didn’t follow the process”. Recently I’ve been given a larger management role and kind threw the entire process out of the window. Baby, bathwater, all of it. And just went with a basic kanban style. We try to do one thing at a time and a lot of my time is spent keeping a backlog that is estimated and prioritized. We have a standup type of call on Monday and Thursday for no more than 5 minutes. (we’re a 100% remote team now, so no office)
Probably should have gone with an ssd.
The trouble for me was always getting people to use the controllers. I had some success with some family members using bubbleupnp on their Android phones. But the separation between sources, renderers and controllers is a little confusing for non technical people
DLNA is going to be your best bet, but it’s such a deep and convoluted rabbit hole. There’s a lot of ways to configure a setup.

23·2 years agoI have a box with 10 old laptops that I keep around, just for that. Unreal tournament 2004, Insane, Brood Wars and all the Id classics. I don’t get to set it up a lot, but when I do it’s always a hit.

2·2 years agoI’ve been using an open garage device I ordered from https://opengarage.io/ for years. It works great with home assistant or by itself. (their opensprinkler control is great too)

Gaming@beehaw.org•Not counting games that were unfun because of bugs, what’s the most unfun video game that you’ve played and what made it unfun?
2·2 years agoNo, it was genuinely bad. Yes bugs, but it was also the classic example of corporate overlords forcing “creativity” and hoping that the licensed property would make it a success regardless of the quality.

5·2 years agoI’ll go with a classic, “E.T. the extraterrestrial” on the Atari… It was bad. It’s badness is legendary for a reason.

Yeah, but it just worked better. I remember doing all the cludges and hacks for IE. The bad taste in my mouth is still largely the reason I hate doing web ui work.
It’s interesting to see the similarities between the market when IE was king and now with chrome. I prefer to use Firefox, but there are just so many sites that only work with chrome. Etc.
