Hemmer was such a good character, shame they killed him off.

Nope! I’m playing the Switch version which I believe is pretty vanilla. Enjoying it a lot so far.

Patient gamer here. Playing Skyrim for the first time.

Set phasers for fun.

This would almost certainly depend on the contracts themselves.
Depends on the game, but overall yay. Some of my favorite games are Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, and Red Dead 2. Open worlds really let you immerse yourself and get lost in the game, especially if you limit fast travel.
I recently played Jedi Fallen Order for the first time, and I was a bit shook at how “level-y” the worlds felt. I wouldn’t say open worlds have ruined traditional games for me, but it sure is jarring going back to them.

One of the best things about DS9 season 2 is the little hints about the Dominion that they drop here and there. Really adds an ominous feeling and makes their introduction hit so right. Then of course, “The Jem’Hadar” is one of my favorite episodes.

Internet anonymity in general is a terrible thing and I would do away with it if I could. I’m impossible to say who’s a real person, who’s a bot, who’s an alternate account. It’s allowed every evil and terrible person to find others like them and embolden each other without the oversight of social pressure from the rest of society which I think is an essentially needed social cue of healthy human communities.
Yes I realize the irony of posting this on Lemmy.

It was never overtly stated that Barclay was doing sex stuff, though I thought it was a neat bit of world building how they said that recreating people they knew in real life was sort of taboo.

I think this has been pretty explicitly confirmed in DS9 and LD.

Hard to compare, because Star Trek Earth really has no need for modes of production. Hence my parenthetical - it’s hard to describe their “economy” in terms of the systems we have today since they can produce pretty much anything they need, as much as they need, whenever they need it.

Not about the characters themselves, but lots about the universe.
-We don’t see it on screen a lot, but I assume that automation takes a lot of the less desirable jobs. This frees up people to pursue their passions or improve themselves without having to worry about who’s going to want to dedicate their life to being a janitor.
-While money isn’t necessary on Earth or within the Federation at large, Starfleet members and/or Federation citizens are given stipends to spend at places that may need it. This includes ports of call like Farpoint Station or non-Federation establishments like Quark’s Bar.
-Unpopular one incoming. The economy of Earth (for whatever the term “economy” is worth here) operates more similarly to an idealized form of capitalism than it does to communism. We see that private property canonically exists and can be acquired or relinquished through personal transactions. The Picards own Chateau Picard, Joseph Sisko owns Sisko’s restaurant, and they’re free to operate them as they see fit.

Oh my bad, I misread it

Much as I love these two, I don’t know if he’d make a great Scotty.

It’s been a while since I watched “The Menagerie” but is this scene in it? Because if this scene appears only in “The Cage” then I don’t think it would be considered canon.
But in any case, it’s a recreation made by psychic aliens based on Pike’s memories. It might not be entirely accurate to begin with.

Human beings are social creatures, and being able to connect with one another is one of the best parts about the internet. But the internet’s incessant need to streamline and optimize how I connect with friends by sending me notifications the moment they’re active on TikTok, posting new stories on Instagram, or liking the same video as me is has turned those real friendships into supervised ones and that fucking sucks.
This author is making a mountain out of a molehill. There are other ways to interact on social media that aren’t just sharing memes and posts (and I’m pretty sure you can pause suggested content on Instagram anyway). You can have an actual conversation with somebody, an algorithm can’t “beat you to it” or “rob you of the opportunity” or whatever.
Or just call them up and hang out with them in the meat space if you’re so concerned.
I do agree, the whole “oops sowwy” with a sad Labrador vibe is a little irritating. But I guess they do it cause it’s a harmless and layman-friendly response.
What I’m saying is that when you see one of these messages you should interpret it as “something is wrong on our end, nothing you can or need to do on your end, please hang tight as we’re aware of the issue and working on it”. They don’t give you more info than that because that average person is probably not a dev and doesn’t have any need for more details than that.
You’re assuming they aren’t already aware of the issue.
Never use those quick lube places. Find a reputable mechanic and get it done there.
