another thing that kind of threw me off was that I remember the 3rd-person view was a lot closer than from the videos I’ve watched. Like it was 3rd-person but the camera was like a feet or two above the person. The videos of the game was like the camera is placed on a ceiling.

Damn I don’t know what’s different tonight but I found it already. It was Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions on PSX. I swear I already checked this before, and I thought it wasn’t it.

Earl is the worst for this.

I just finished Earl. Either the AI for catchup for Earl is egregious as you’ve said or the tail end of the race is mostly cornering and I’m just bad at it. I had to restart like 4 times.

Maybe I’m still in the early stages (blacklist 10) that catchup for enemies isn’t too relevant because I’ve been smoking them (like half the map away).

Although when I do make a mistake (ram head-on against another car, hit a wall, etc.) it is plainly obvious that given enough time I’ll be able to catch up.

It’s still a fun jrpg, the song magic amd reyvatail mechanics are a neat twist to the basic turn-based action.

And “Diving”/dating sim mechanic of the game is a fun way to add some social aspect (besides the story).
