No idea. In my opinion the law and computer code are very similar. Its the people working to make and interpret it who bring in variation, for good and bad.

I mean thats great. Bluesky is still just another billinaire walled garden.
Lemmy cant. It has a clear cut sorting strategy which is open source. Assuming we’re talking about actual suggestions which are based on something else than most upvotes, most downvotes, most upvotes per time.
We should hang out sometime. You sound pleasant! :)
You hit the nail on the head.
Now you need to be able to counter the manipulation happening every day through media, other people, etc.
A decade ago I stopped watching TV. Everyone asked me why. I said I‘m not watching commercials. Guess what I do with platforms that push ads!
We really need to talk about outlawing commercials that arent pure product information. Good looking guy gets chased by beautiful women when using *** bodyspray? Cue moron: „but its sarcasm, duh!“ no its not. Not for your subconcious. It is manipulation.
Btw I was trained by a psychologist (a guy paid by the car company, who is a licensed therapist and has a licensed practice) to manipulate people into buying cars. Not through arguments or superior manufacturing but pure tone of voice, using familiar wording, analyzing their weak points. This stuff is dark. Needless to say I dont do that job anymore. No amount of money is worth manipulating people into buying stuff they dont need.
This shit needs to go if we want to live free at some point (let alone make it through fascism and a planet on fire).
Depends on what you hope to find. Generally, independent media will show you the most complete picture. The taz in germany and 404 media are both pretty good afaik.
The conclusion that the US is a threat to democracy has evolved over time. Their financing of the genocide in gaza, their intervention in irak and other countries they had no right to intervene in, the first trump admin which cost millions of americans their lives and now the second one in the process of (allegedly) dismantling the government system alltogether. together with mass deportations and simple deletion of trans people from government docs. Oh and pardonning the insurectionists from jan 6th. No idea what follows.
There are a lot of sources for this stuff but you will have to draw your own conclusion.
In germany, a couple peeps agree that china is becoming the better option for living. Both, the US and china are bad actors and enemies to democracy and freedom but at this point, the differences have become technicalities while the US has become more unstable and dangerous to its citizens.
You dont even need special nvme‘s. You can buy mid range ones.
Best is if they dont fail together so they should best not be the same batch or have the same age and write amount.
I do highly recommend to have a raid array for any server ssd since they fail unpredicably and without any signs.
I‘m building this for some time now. I run a raid 1 on mechanical disks for file storage and have an ssd for the logic/database stuff. Have bought a second ssd and will put them in a raid as well bc limited lifespan.
Yikes! We have a live one.
Apple is breaking international law with their software. I suggest you start reading about it and not accuse others of ideology without having any idea what you‘re talking about.
Edit: another bot. 130 comments, zero posts. Thats the third one in as many days after two years of silence. Zuck is running interference it seems.
iMessage is crap as well. Its used to strengthen apples illegal monopoly. They are being sued for this.
Signal is pretty much the best for low tech users. Folks with more advanced knowledge and higher resilience expectations use matrix. Both have strong encryption and work on every device known to man.
You wanted to sync passwords and keys. I suggested bitwarden. Its foss and works well even the hosting is free which I consider awesome.
Simple solutions being unnecessary expensive on apple is a feature, not a bug.
Yes i have used termius. It is okay but iphone is just crap for poweruser/admin work, period. I now use a postmarketOS phone for that which just runs linux.
This sounds like corpo bullshit. Apple is a shitpile and so is microsoft but you can absolutely make it work. Bitwarden is free for individuals and works great for this. Its open source and you could even self host it but you dont need to. Good luck. Consider checking linux since that corpo trash is proliferating all things fucked up atm. (Microsoft, apple and google are fascism supporters)
But nobody could have seen that coming! /s
If you - like me - dont like to use large companies if you can avoid it, I suggest a proxy server. You open port 8089 or something on your router, (security bonus: accept only connections from proxy‘s ip,) install nginx proxy manager and reroute the domain in question to said ip and port.
This probably works in many ways but thats the first that comes to my mind.
Of course you can use cloudflare free tier afaik. But remember, if you dont pay for it, you‘re the product.
Exactly how I see it and did it. Thanks for mentioning this.
I only had to read like three or four sentences to arrive at the conclusion: yes, you should absolutely self host and you‘re already pretty far.
Depending on your location, I suggest you first visit your local hackspace, if that exists. I have had a similar journey and it took me years to arrive at my current state. Had I learned about „hacker communities“ earlier, I would have taken a very different and less stressful path.

Never heard of that. Feel free to share info.
Plex is just really polished and kind of makes sharing with low tech friends easy imo. But switching to proper foss is on my list.
Hi there! I see you‘re spitting thruth again.
I have since gone with the programme for a couple months and developed some foss software, helped make foss software and tested some foss software.
The general impression I got from it was: most of it is used without any reciprocity of any kind. The bigger projects get some donations and some also get code.
But stomping new projects out of the ground is pretty much impossible that way because you will have to invest 100s of hours to test and program. Nothing you can do in a reasonable timeframe while having a day job and a life.
So yes, I think especially for projects south of a certain size, companies should pay. Dual licensing was mentioned once. Something like agpl + commercial license if someone wants to use it closed source. I dont think it covers general profit seeking intent though.
Have a good one.
