As a result of this, the American government can now, through iCloud servers decrypt and read all the data from all the phones used by UK government staff. You’ve lost more than you possibly gained.
This is so believable. You copy a few examples out of a textbook using cout and cin and it seems reasonably inline with other languages.
Normally this sort of organisation is called a “not for profit”. It acts like a company in every respect but doesn’t do more than pay for its own use. Examples are semi-public services such as “Transport for London” etc. in terms of org or dot com, I think you can use either.
I’d love to see it ported to Linux and for Spotify to release a fork of it again.

I think it’s because TOTP requires some sort of initial token sync that is more complicated than entering a telephone number. There’s also no need to have people backup codes etc. To use Authy for example I need to photograph a QR code and have a smart phone.
Text message as a solution works on older non-smart phones so it’s possibly the “most widely accessible” solution.
From a backend perspective as well it’s just an API text $random to $phone.

If it’s based on the timing of replies it can be fixed in an iPhone update by simply waiting a few random seconds or minutes before firing a response.

The first consideration is always your internet speed. If you’re building a pc then you’re self hosting from house. In many countries the internet is ADSL meaning the upload is very slow but the download is fast. However for hosting you need fast upload. You’ll need a fibre connection to stream video from home.
I rent a server in the cloud to do self-hosting due to the subtle difference in my definition of hosting, being that I control the services and data they hold, not that they are literal hosted at home.
Beyond that consideration I’d say everything else is trial and error and you should experiment.
I support unionising in general but not for contractors. By definition contractors have agreed to do short term work according to a specific contract. Trying to negotiate the contract later seems dishonest. That’s a very different to a regular long-term open-ended employment contract where unionising makes sense.
