The main problem with modern hardware is that it needs to have an abundance of resources because of sarcastic questions like this. There is no reason why memory-efficient programming should be considered outdated.

The baseline in technical projects is “make good products” though.

I’m all in favour of the OpenBSD mantra here: Shut up and code. People aren’t the same, and you can’t expect (e.g.) autists to share the same views about what’s nice and what’s rude as other persons.

The point I’m trying to make is that nice people won’t help the project by being nice people. IT projects are inherently technical, and that should be the only relevant unit of measurement here.

Regardless of the (undoubtedly funny) nature of that very document, I wish that “codes of conduct” weren’t such a big thing. “Don’t be a dick” is the only rule one would ever need, and there is not much bureaucracy needed to enforce that.

On the other hand, Technitium comes with a fairly useful configuration straight out of the box. If you only want to use it on your home LAN (and therefore don’t necessarily need SSL), the only thing you really need to change is the block list field.

I use and warmly recommend Technitium DNS. Unlike most other solutions, it uses the root servers by default while still providing an ad blocker, DoH, DoQ etc. - and it does not even require any command-line kung-fu for that (except for the installation, which is one command).
