Healthcare is already biased
n a US study of 19,331 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests, 39% of women who collapsed in public received bystander CPR, compared with 45% of men.
While I don’t deny that medicin is biased, especially with how often women get labeled as hypochondriacs, I think this has a different underlying reason than a failure of the medical field.
Putting boobs on the CPR manikin wouldn’t exactly erase the fear of getting labeled a sex offender, especially in the US where good Samaritan laws are pretty much useless.
I’m frankly shocked 45% of men received CPR from bystanders. I had no idea CPR training was that widespread.
In my state it’s mandatory to learn it before you graduate HS. Now, I should actually take the time to review cause I wouldn’t be ready to help a person…
That’s pretty cool. All I know about CPR is that doing it right is traumatic and may break the subject’s ribs. And Staying Alive. That’d give me pause before just winging it as a bystander.
